The ONLY religion that I admire is really a philosophy, Buddhism. I like the idea of striving for enlightenment. In my opinion, Jesus was about enlightenment. Salvation is man made, not God made.

Ganesha, the Hindu deity who is called Lord of All Categories, and God of Firsts. Before any new venture is undertaken, homage is given to him...

But he's as humble as a shop keeper, as chatty and laid-back as a best friend, he insists his statues be made of worthless plaster and any gifts to him be made of the cheapest wine and the commonest wildflowers. He doesn't threaten with retribution, cause lesions and boils, slaughter firstborns, rain frogs (Picture the poor terrified little critter's faces as they plummet from the sky), burn down cities or flood worlds. He's content to just hang out and chat it up, or simply sit and BE.

I like that.

"Ahimsa" or non-violence, from Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

There is a version of it in Christianity, too (Jesus' "turn the other cheek"), but I think the Indian traditions have developed the concept most profoundly, culminating in Gandhi's and then Martin Luther King's brilliant use of the concept to effect political and social change in the 20th century.

I've always liked the concept of Valhalla and Ragnarok from Norse Mythology. It's metal.

fate from buddhism. i was brought up in a catholic home. atheist now. but you've got to love a belief system that tells you to get off your butt and deal with life. the glass is always half full, just endeavor to persevere it's not the destination but the path you choose that leads to enlightenment:>)

I admire Jehovah's Witnesses for being able to give up much of paganism such as Christmas, Easter, etc. It takes alot of courage for them to be able to do this.
