Jen is absolutely right. You must research. Ferrets are not for everyone. They have some very specific health issues that can get very expensive, and they need vaccines, including rabies. They have their own personalities. Not to mention their odor is not desired by everyone. I work with an exotic animal vet from time to time. She has a lot of clients who admit that they did not know what they were getting into when they got their ferret. They didn't research. Ferrets do make very good pets when they are with the right people, but like I said, that is not everyone.

pet stores frequently stock ferrets if you live in a state where it is legal to buy and sell them. a small cage is about 70 dollars. a ferret is about 130.00. ferrets are very social animals so plant on getting 1 or 2 more for him to play with.

try a shelter first off, adoption fees and everything would be around 60$ if you go to a petstore theyll be around $100.00.
the lowest ive every seen them were for $50 but thats because they were dropped off at the store from ppl who found them in an abandoned house. when you do buy the ferret, ask where its from.. if its from marshalls id be careful, they inbreed there. they also had a huge lawsuit against them for grinding up dead ferrets and feeding them to the living ones...now they breed beagles *sigh*

If you have to ask those questions HERE of all places, then you don't need a ferret at all. Do some real research first... Find out what kind of care they need, their common health issues, learn about their personalities (you may find you don't want one at all), what you would do if your ferret got sick (is there a local vet nearby that specializes in exotics?), what sort of vaccinations it will need, etc, etc.

If owning ferrets in legal in your state, then you could probably check your local pet stores, animal shelters, newspaper classifieds or Pennysaver. Without knowing your location, it would be difficult to give you anymore details. I hope this helps!
