Main concern for gastroenteristis is to make sure that the child will not become dehydrated due to vomitting and diarrhea. Thus it is important to replace fluid loss and maintain hydration: to monitor his urine output, his skin elasticity, and his behaviour(normal as mild dehydration, irritable as moderate, restless lethargic as severe dehydration). We can't stop the throwing up because his stomach and intestines are inflammed due to the invasion of bacteria, which will multiply, and there will be an increase in secretions and a decreased absorption of fluids. Thus your child will either pass out through the bottom (diarrhea) or throw out through the top (vomitiing), or both. 2nd concern is that it is contagious and cross-infection must be prevented through good personal and environmental hygiene practices like strict hand-washing before eating food and after toilet, cooking meals, and washing utensils clean. For any soiled linen or clothings, pls seperate and disinfect them in a different bucket. Do not mix together with the household linen. Do not worry, it does not spread through air but through bacteria/virus introduced into our intestines and stomach. And finally, your affected child should be isolated from the rest of the siblings and get your husband to do most of the cleaning up since you're pregnant and it will be bad to catch up with a diarrhea or vomitting that may lead to dehydration. It is self-limiting and will be over soon. But do educate your children and family to adopt good hygiene practices in school & at home at all times to prevent it from happening again. Take good care.

oh honey - we all got that right after Christmas. I used bleach everywhere when I cleaned it all up and after a dreadful night of laundry, comforting a sick kid, cleaning up (I actually had to remove the baseboard in her room and dismantle the heating vent), she was fine. My husband and I got it about a day and a half later.

Unfortunately, it is not necessarily how clean you are. If he's vomiting now, he is likely to have been contagious for the past few days. Hang in there and get hubby to clean up as much as possible. You need your strength to keep you and baby going.
