well i'm sure you mom knows best i'm a mom myself and i raise pits your mom might have noticed a behavior in the last one that might have made her feel uneasy or it could be a case of her seeing how it affected you when the last pitbull died or yall might not be financaley able to have an animal all animals need lots of care and checkups theres more to owning any animal than just getting it , spending time with it , and feeding and watering it there are vet bills to consider as well sorry but i have to agree with mom cause moms normally know best you'll have to wait till you get a place of your own plus she might be watching all the bull crap media thats giving this breed a bad name sorry i wasnt much help but you should really consider all this before getting another dog

I'm going to assume that you've done your research on this breed and know what kind of a dog your getting (one that tends to be people friendly but dog aggressive). A pit bull is in the terrier family and as such, is not an ideal dog for first time dog owners (terriers are very independent).

With that out there, the best way to change your mom's mind is to start acting like you might actually get one. Research breeders (DO NOT BUY A PIT FROM THE NEWSPAPERS CLASSIFIEDS) and find a few that are reputable. Get a job amd start saving money for purchase and dog expenses (vet bills, food, dog toys, training, and grooming). Look at puppy training classes. Look at breed-specific legislation in your area (some ban certain breeds of dog). Check with the homeowner's insurance to see what getting a pit will do to to the policy (again, some don't allow certain dog breeds, some won't cover if the dog bites someone)
IF your mom sees you doing all of this she will realize that you know everything that being a responsible dog owner entails. PERHAPS this will convince her that you are responsible and serious-minded enough to get a dog (I'm not making any guarantees).

There is more to responsibility than just making sure the dog gets fed on time, especially with pits. You may be able to get your mom to budge if you think about getting another breed of dog (there are lots of good ones out there).

If you get a pit you have to be VERY responsible to be one of the good owners with one of the good dogs. It takes more than love to make a good dog, it requires some serious effort and training.

And ultimately you have to be willing to accept the fact that you can't get the dog you want right now.

I hope this helps

Just give her more time. Maybe she doesn't want another one because of losing the last one. That's common. Don't give up on showing her how responsible you are and just be patient. It sounds to me like you can be very responsible with the things you do for your brother and uncle, maybe your Mom just needs more time to get used to the idea. It took my kids awhile to convince me to get a dog but now we have 3. LOL

"Mom, it followed me home."

In all seriousness, right an essey. If your mom is anything like mine, she'll eat it up and give in because you wrote such an informative piece outlining the breed and it's pros/cons as well as why you're responsible enough to take on a dog.

Having a temp pet to prove yourself won't help our case, though. Tells your mom that you'll be responsible, but only until you get what you want.

Good luck, and remember, look at both sides of the issue if you write the essey. Being able to see things from multiple point of veiws makes you look way mature, and use spell check. Please, please use spell check.

unfortunately, one of your statements prove you aren't responsible enough and neither are your parents. when u get an animal, whether it be a dog or a cat or any other animal, u dont bring it in your home just to keep mice away, its supposed to be part of your family. so your going to get rid of that cat, where is that cat going to go? shelter, where they will just kill it. read my last question about my experience i am having with my pit, and unless u are willing and your parents are willing to pay for your dog being blamed for something whether he did or did not do it then u aren't ready for one and i can't blame your parents for saying no either.

Paul, it is quite simple. All you have to do is show her how responsible you are by making sure your room is clean and and care for the cat by cleaning the litter box every now and again. I did that to my mom for a hamster and now I have one! So just show her you are responsible.

with a cat in the house if i was your mom i would not want a pit bull in the house either. i think you should be happy with going to your uncles house and visiting his when you can

if she asks what you want for your birthday or christmas, tell her all you want is a pitbull, nothing else, just to have one and you will pay for it. once you get one, go back to wanting other things, but dont forget to by the food and dog etc.

.Why wouldnt you want another smaller breed of dog? An older mutt? I suspect you want the breed because it would make you "Bad" as well.

It sounds to me like you shouldnt have one either. Sorry.
Wait till you have a place of your own - and until you arent nearly so busy. Your life seems rather topsy-turvy.

If you really wanted to prove to your mother how responsible you are you would stop hounding your mother for a new pitbull.
