I'm a new puppy owner. Does anyone have any info regarding this and other grooming habits owners should pick up on... such as puppy mouth hygiene

every three weeks, make sure a groomer clips the hair from by her eyes so that tear stain will not be bad, also wipe the goo from her eyes so she wont have those nasty looking brownish stains. brush her at least once a day or every other day so that she does not become matted (its painful for them).
you can get a doggie toothbrush and paste from your local petco or maybe walmart and just brush her teeth just like you would do your own. dont use your toothpaste.
you can also get those doggie bones called greenies, i dont know how good they are cause my dog wont touch them..be sure to get her nails done which you can learn to do yourself or the groomer will know how to do it. which it dont cost much for just nails.

Start at a very young age introducing her to bathtubs, water, nail clipping, and teeth brushing.

Start with putting her in the bathtub and play with her and feed her treats. Make it a fun place to be. After a couple times run the water and continue as normal, playing and treating. Then splash water on her and work up to where she's lathered and rinsed off. Work on it a couple times a week and by the time she needs a bath she'll be prepared mentally to accept it willingly. How often to bathe really depends on each dog. Some dogs may produce the oils within a couple weeks, some may only need a bath once a month.

Work the nails the same way...start with having the clippers around the house when you're playing, then in your hand, then the very tip of one nail. She'll get used to it the same way and it won't be a biweekly hellish struggle.

In the past couple years dental hygiene has become increasingly important, especially in pets. You should brush your puppy's teeth at least weekly. There are also other things you can do, like giving your dog teeth-cleaning chews. There's also a special liquid you can put in her water daily that helps keep her teeth clean. Once she's two years old she should start getting regular yearly cleanings, similar to our own human cleanings. Since no dog is going to sit still and "open wide" for a cleaning, they are put under anesthesia for the procedure, but it's painless and it's not an overnight thing. The vet will use special equipment to scrape off invisible plaque and tartar and then apply a special coating to help resist plaque buildup.

Wait until she's about 12 wks. old before giving her a bath. After that bath/grooming every 4-6 wks. Brush at least once a week. As far as oral hygiene goes, there are several types of doggie toothbrushes. The best one is a three sided brush. There are also meat flavored toothpastes. Stay away from Greenies. They can cause stomach/intestinal blockage. Good luck and have fun with your new baby!

The younger they are the less they should be bathed, baby skin is delicate. when possable just spot clean her with baby wipes or a damp cloth. A full bath should be necessary no more than every other week. Also make sure to keep the ears good and clean.
