It is because of our sinful nature that man has the ability to deceive and lure others away from God. We are all born with a sinful nature, therefore, we all fall short of the glory of God. No one can know how bad it is because, until a person dies, their sinful nature is always with them, thus, we cannot measure sin - it happens every day like clockwork. Take a look at society around us today - sin is everywhere and seems there's no end to it - and there won't be until Christ returns. Then and only then will sin cease to exist.

Matthew 15:17-20 explain it better - Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into th draught? 18 - But those things which proceed out of the mouth come froth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 - For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 - These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Our emotions come from the heart and often can mislead us. Hence we often times are lead astray by our own lusts and deceived by insincere false ministers of the gospel..., just as with the secular world who follow after deceptive leaders and so forth who do in fact play on our emotions like a cheap fiddle.

The Apostle Paul also makes a statement about seemingly always doing the opposite of what we would like to do.., and to me this not only relates to what Jeremiah said, but also concludes that when we follow that deceptive emotion (of the heart) it can have less than desired results.

FAITH - has to over-ride the dictate of the heart.., or rather faith has to be allowed to ride as is without relying purely on emotion confused with faith. Our flesh is sinful by nature - and one of the chief fundamentals of the sinful human goes back to the dawn of man - deception being a sin passed from the Serpent (Satan) to Adam and Eve to Cain and down the line throughout contemporary humanity.

Faith from the heart is good. But from the heart, replacing it as faith gets us into deep trouble. This is from the school of experience and compared to Biblical example. Faith is not always about our heart (emotions), but trusting in something beyond ourselves, something proven and time tested. God.

I think that this verse is a warning about making important decisions based on how we feel, rather than what is right in God's eyes. Our feelings can change like the wind, but God's words of wisdom never change.

It speaks of the heart we are born with, but if we have been baptized we are given a new heart.

Ezekiel 36
25Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

my interpretation of the verse is your heart can lure you into many situations that are very hurtful,as well as capable of luring others into harmful places,to often we let our hearts instead of our heads lead us,we are weak because we give in to our hearts

It appears that it is saying that your heart can lead you in the wrong direction and it may be too late when you find out!
