so i found a VERY pregnant pitbull today walked on a veyr busy road. i was able to pick her up. Took her to my vet. they didnt want her.(fear of disease) i called the humane society. they could do nothing- finally i took her to the SPCA. they took her, but if they cant place her she will be euthanized in 72 hours. its heartbreaking. i dont know what to do. i already have 4 dogs. and cannot take more in. i would feel sooo terrible if i knew i took this poor dog to her death. i need to find out QUICKTIME where i can take her. i want to get her out of the SPCA just in case, she will probably have the litter within a couple days.
she has a genuinely sweet disposition.
HELP PLS

everyone has helped so much, i was able to get set up with a few rescue mailing lists. I have at least 2 ppl who want the dog, but now, its just a matter of the SPCA surrendering her to them. red tape and junk.. BUT....according to the SPCA it can go either way still. which i DONT understand. If someone wants her, why would they even consider still putting her down. She has had a health exam, and is not ill. still under observation for behaviour, but that is apparently procedure.
THANKS EVERYONE!!!

I am so sorry but I would have picked her up too. Maybe you can put an ad in the paper for free dog and someone with a kind heart like yours will step forward. good luck!

First I want to say that I have rescued and placed over 30 APBT into good homes, some needed allot of work and some no allot at all. I have had to make the same decision a few times myself. I also own a APBT as well she is my pride and joy. You can call all of the rescues in your area call the one that are specific pitbull rescues the other are a waste of time, they will say no. When you call tell them the details and the urgency, if they cant find a cage in there place ask them who can, ask them of they have any personal friends that do rescue. Offer to buy dog food and a donation etc.. this will make them see you are serious, remember they have heard it all before. If you call the breed specific rescues they and you find true believer of the breed you have a better chance. What you need to prepare yourself for is that they may be full and cant help but keep trying. If you can't find her a home or a rescue to take her, know in your heart that is what her destiny, and you saved her and gave her peace. If they euthanize her she will always be with her puppies and never have to worry that her or her puppies will ever be treated like garbage. I TRULY WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK !!! She is so lucky to have found you no matter what the outcome is, please try to remember that.

Many shelters have policies about not adopting out pitbulls period. You can look for a 'no kill' shelter, but they may be unwilling to take in a pit.
So your options are limited if you can't find another shelter for her. You can take her in until she has the pups and adopt them out when they're old enough. You can try telling the shelter that you will pay for her upkeep until the pups are weaned. You can foster her for a few days and see if you have a friend who'd like a dog. If you can find a place for her long enough, you can place the puppies even if the mom has to be put to sleep.
But the cold truth is that she and the pups may have to be put down. It's cold comfort that it's probably better for them than what would have happened if she had remained on the street.
I'm sorry about this, you have a tender heart. Whatever happens, you did the right thing by getting her off the street.
I hope this helps

You already have four dogs but what I would have done is keep her until she births her puppies. It's a lot of hard work but you could ask neighbors/ friends and family if they want a dog or any of the litter once they can be separated. But what concerns me is the organization you took her to. She is pregnant and already they are thinking of putting her down? Seems somewhat cruel and inhumane.
According to the SPCA they believe in the 'no kill' policy. So what they told you seems totally against what they stand for. And that in itself is something you can bring up in their website.
If you honestly and truly think the matter can not wait until you receive some sort of email response you can call them at their toll free number: 1-866-494-7722. File a complaint and try to get her back until the matter can be resolved.
Good luck and I wish you and her the best...

That is horrible that the SPCA said that! Usually what they do is find a foster home for the dog so she can deliver the babies in a calm environment and once the puppies are weaned, the mother and litter are put up for adoption. I have NEVER heard of them euthanizing in 72 hours - that isn't even enough time for them to do the normal temperament testing they do to see if they even are adoptable. *sigh* Have you though about maybe fostering her or seeing if you can find someone to foster her?

the puppies will probably be adopted quickly. so, I think you should be able to find a no-kill rescue or shelter in your area without too much hassle for mom. go to petfinder.com & see what shelters are in your area. if you can't find one, put ads on craig's list & the paper & see what happens. tell people that she'll be put down in 3 days unless someone helps. if you can testify to her disposition, you will be doing her a great service. if you get the word out that a great dog needs a home there will always be someone that answers. good luck!

i do no longer personal a Pit, yet I worked for a no-kill take care of for rather awhile at the same time as starting to be up and did a lot of educating. I actually have self belief the temperment of the Pit Bull is a appropriate away correlation to the learning and medical care it receives from the owner. regrettably, the Pit Bull is basically dealt with as a standing image as adversarial to a dogs or puppy. Alot of human beings that ought to no longer be allowed interior of 50 ft of a dogs chosen to personal the Pit Bull because they imagine it makes them look demanding to have one. no longer because they love the dogs or breed. the properly effect is an unruly, uncontrollable, and typically cases abused and harsh animal that has no appreciate for human beings. The Pit Bull is an exceedingly good animal, and under no circumstances respecting human beings because it is alpha actually leads to hardship. it is critical to undergo in concepts that any dogs it particularly is dealt with badly is a adverse dogs. The jaw ability of a Pit Bull is a lot more suitable than alot of different dogs, making them infamous at the same time as they attack because it does that a lot more suitable harm. The media contributes to the plight of the Pit Bull, also. Golden Retrievers used to have the most bites in step with 12 months of any breed (no longer advantageous if that continues to be modern thoughts or no longer), yet what percentage Golden bites do you listen about interior the information? Or the different breed, for that count number? you do not, till the attack become rather severe. yet at the same time as a Pit Bull bites - even if if through bites that is an exceedingly person-friendly one - that is between the properly information tale that nighttime. My prominent dogs to artwork with at the same time as they got here in to the no-kill take care of were our Pit Bulls and Pit mixes - as an finished, in my experience they're person-friendly to coach, attentive dogs. that is a shame they don't get the appreciate or love they deserve. somewhat of time and love in a Pit Bull leads to a dazzling dogs.

see if you can get in touch with a pit bull rescue. most of the rescues will give her more time to be placed in a new home. and also as a pit owner if you do end up keeping her look out for dog aggression for your other dogs sake (it can show up at any time) that being said properly bred pit bulls are not people aggressive.
