my kids favorite activities is actual from common, leftover items.
Example:
1. decorate toilet paper roll add beads and paper at each with rubber band to hold in place. now you have shakers for your "marching band."
2. foam stickers!!! they love making collages with those and glitter.
3. princess wands and knights swords'
take a paper towl roll decorate for wand add string and star at top. or her homemade picture of a castle.
for sword add his homemade picture of a dragon on top.
4. coloring pages. always a hit!!!
5. dance "contest" for little suprises. turn on the music dance and sing with them and give them a suprise for doing so well.
6. craft sticks/popcicle sticks- build houses, castles, etc....... with glue and decorate!!! then you build the people and animals to go with.
7. poster board fun- take a poster board and trace them and then have them decorate themselves with glitter, markers, crayons, etc...
8. "cook with me" kids love to bake, especially cookies. my kids love the "ready made" cookies i take it apart the place them on one by one. (with a little spacing help from mommy) and then we bake. then when it is down to the seconds we count together. cool. then they place on the plate. and add icing. and sprinkles.
or "seeds in a garden" my kids love it because they can do all themselves.
plain cracker
raisins
peanut butter
plastic knife.
9. paper plate face masks.
string
glitter, markers, glue, crayon
scissors to cut out the eyes and mouth
the more creative you are and the more your "involved" they will behave more and have fun. because it is instructed fun!!!
added: if you dont have enough glitter or coloring supplies. try using ceral. my kids love froot loops and cheerios collages.

My sons are 2 & 5. They like to play outside doing pretty much anything! Here are a few suggestions: swings, slide, bubbles, sidewalk chalk. Since they are the same sex, they might enjoy similar things inside. For example, my boys enjoy coloring, painting, fingerpainting, Hot Wheels. They don't play the same with these things but there is some common ground. You may have to "help" the 2 yo with some of the activities. This age gap isn't so much of a handicap. They probably will just enjoy playing with the nanny!

coloring is always good
Play dough is one of my daughter's favorite things!
Read to them. Get repetative books and give them each a line to say (In This n That, one of the lines repeats constantly "This and that, purred the cat.) Read the book out loud, and when you get to the line, point to one of them and have them say it in a silly voice.
Find a kid's cookbook and take them into the kitchen to make "treats" for Mom & Dad.
