I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder about 4 years ago. It's a very complicated disorder when it comes to understanding it. Most psychiatrists will diagnose you if you fit into five or more of the nine major criteria associated with the disorder. The criteria are as follows:
1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment.
2. A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
3. Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self; or sense of long-term goals; or career choices, types of friends desired or values preferred.
4. Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging: for example; spending, sex, substance abuse, and binge eating.
5. Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior.
6. Affective instability: marked shifts from baseline mood to depression, irritability, or anxiety, usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days.
7. Chronic feelings of emptiness.
8. Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger; frequent displays of temper.
9. Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms.
Now you may be thinking "crap, I think I fit into a lot of those," but remember only a psychiatrist can diagnose and treat you for this disorder. I didn't even know what it was until my psychiatrist brought it up. I was convinced I was bi-polar.
If you are worried that you have this, please talk to a psychiatrist. And if you'd like to know more about it, the book "I hate you- Don'e leave me" really helped me to understand it better.

If the person who suggested that you might have borderline personality disorder was a professional, such as a counselor, then I would listen to them.
Otherwise, I would talk to a counselor so you can figure out what is going on, and what to do to overcome the feelings that you are having.
Some of your symptoms are characteristics of personality disorders, and some sound like depression. But, you really won't know until you seek a professional opinion.
With help, and your willingness to seek and accept help, you can overcome this and be "normal".

Unless the person who suggested borderline personality disorder was a psychologist or a psychiatrist I wouldn't pay too much attention.
Your symptoms could be caused by something physical or something emotional, it's making you unhappy, so the best thing to do is to see a doctor. Tell your doctor your symptoms, they will do some tests and see what can help you.
Don't just let this go on. You deserve a better life than this.

The diagnosis of that is tricky and you may simply be depressed. Don't rely on non-professionals for a diagnosis.
I suggest you ask your physician for a referral to a psychologist for an evaluation. You could be feeling better quickly if you get some advice from someone qualified to diagnose and suggest treatment.
