Same thing happened to me a few years ago. A round of antoibiotics did not work so I ended up having a root canal. Yuck. I hope you see a dentist soon.
Good luck.

The exact same thing happened to me only last week.
I went out and bought mouth - wash and that night when I brushed my teeth - I got heaps of toothpaste and pressed pretty hard on the area with my toothbrush. I then made sure I gave behind my 2 front teeth a good scrub and rinsed with the anti - bacterial mouth wash.
It was gone by the next day.
Give that a go.

It could be that you either bit into something hot or irritated your gum with something sharp or pointy. The best remedy I have found to work for this is rinsing with warm salt water at least three times a day for a couple of days. If it persists or you are still concerned then to be on the safe side go see a dentist.

All of the answers here a good ones. One other thing to do is check around your teeth for any food that might be stuck in your gums, this happens to me often after eating sharp things like chips and sometimes a good brushing flossing doesn't get to it.
If it persists after trying all these things go see your dentist ASAP.

Sometimes that happens to me too. If you eat something sharp, like chips, nuts, or even bite into an apple...you just have to scrape the roof slightly, and it will get inflamed. Just rince with a antibacterial mouth wash, and it should go away in a couple more days. (hurts, huh!)

This happens to me about twice a year. In my case it is allergies. The Dr can give you a prescription mouth rinse that works wonderful.

It could be a food allergy or a gum infection.
