Here in Canada it is SARA - Species At Risk Act. This is a government regulations on how to protect particular species of animals, tree species, forest & vegetation types that are at risk of extinction.

If these endangered species habitat is in endanger or at risk there are guidelines that industry or public must follow to ensure these species are protected. If these regulations or acts are not followed there is jail time or fines starting at $500K for non-compliances of these rules.
