My good friend Carolina thinks i am betraying my culture by not dating a spanish guy.I am costa rican, argentinian, french, german, dutch and spaniard.But for the most part spanish is the biggest chunk of that.She see's me being intrested in a white guy in my class as offensive saying that there are plenty of latin guys.Its not like i am doing this on purpose its just i have always lived in an almost all white neiborhood so most of my bf's have been white?I have gone out with African and Asian guys though so i dont think i am racist?Its also really hard for me to mesh with a spanish guy culture wise so i generally avoid dating them ie i dont speak spanish.

You should date whoever you are attracted to.
She's being close-minded by saying you should ONLY date Spanish guys, but you are being closed-minded as well for dismissing them without giving them a chance. You can't judge someone you don't even know because they are the same race or culture as someone you once dated. That's called "prejudice" (pre-judging someone based on either stereotypes or previous experiences with other people who might *seem* similar).
I think you should get to know a wide variety of people and cultures (though not necessarily date them all). You might be surprised by the kinds of guys you find interesting.
You can't be completely color-blind (no one really is) and you just might prefer to be with the kinds of people you are used to. That's OK. But please open your mind and your heart to people of all colors and cultures. You will be a better person for it.

I second that (referring to other answerer's here, not the question/rant)! Learn how to type concisely, and keep your caps lock either on or off! I personally consider myself an independent conservative, rather than a republican because I disagree with some of their ideology. Those republicans I do know however, DO NOT fit your description whatsoever! Republicans are all in favor of self fulfillment! The tools are already there in this society for anyone who is willing to use them, to gain whatever you want in life! Being a minority or female should not automatically entitle you to specific benefits from the government not currently provided to everyone! As further proof against your claims, the current Republican presidential administration has placed far more minorities or women into well deserved positions of authority than any other president!

racism is judging other's character and ability solely on their race, such as saying "person x is like THIS because he is THAT color." Dating is different. Preference for relationships can vary, you don't have to be attracted to people of every race or any one race. So you can still be unattracted to other Spanish people, and like them as people. Your friend might be scared that you are losing your "cultural heritage," but you do have the right to date any race. But actually, such a view that forces you to date "one race" might mean someone could be haitin on all the other races ! ! !

No, I don't think that there is anything wrong with you dating a white guy. You're not saying that you would never date someone who is Latin. You just like who you like. If I were you I wouldn't worry about it. Just be with who makes you happy.

You date who you want to date. You follow your own heart, not someone's elses opinion. Racist is a term that is being overly used and misused these days....so don't worry about that. I don't feel that you are close minded at all. Why should she judge you by her convictions?
