It sounds like your shotgun has had a Polychoke installed on the barrel. While this makes it great for hunting to be able to constrict the shot for longer shots it also knocks 20-30% off the price of the gun. If you're looking to sell the gun you may want to purchase a factory barrel to bring the price up.

Could be a removable choke or the Browning "BOSS" system (Ballistic Optimizing Stability System), a 'tunable' muzzle brake. If it IS made in Belgium, it's worth more than the Japanese made Brownings.
