It sounds like she needs a 'white noise' machine to help her sleep. Both my kids and I use one, can't sleep without it, even take it on trips! I don't want to advertise on this site, and I have no connection with this company, but this machine is something she should look for. It doesn't give off heat, but she can buy a nice, soft fleece throw to wrap up in and feel warmer. What she is doing is extremely dangerous. If there should be a fire, she would be terribly burned and disfigured, if she survived, as she's be sleeping right next to the fire source. Tell her to talk to her mom about getting a sleep machine.

there are safer ways to get the same affect she's talking about.... suggest she buy a space heater with a built in electric fan or just stick a space heater in front of a separate fan(just make sure it's not made of plastic lol). It would at least be safer than what you say your friend does. Get her to do that a different way otherwise you may not have a friend anymore if her hairdryer cuases a fire in the house.

She should just record the sound of the hairdryer and play back the recording. She can put more blankets on the bed to keep warm. That really is such a fire hazard. There are those tapes you can get of rain or forest noises that help people sleep.

Never heard that. I sleep with a fan on all year round. The fan on medium makes quite a hum, and drowns out all of the other little annoying noises when I am trying to sleep. Fans are less dangerous, and will eat up less of the electricity bill. Tell her to give it a shot.

I don't know anyone who does that. I think that is very dangerous. Doesn't she know that? She needs to figure some other kind of way to fall asleep. Get her to record the sound on a cd or cassette tape. And wrap up in extra blankets.

Whoa...this is not good. She should get a space heater. It makes noise and keeps people warm. Is she an adult? I hope an adult wouldn't do something this unsafe. If she lives with mom and dad, ask them why they are allowing this to happen. This is extremely serious, she could (and probably eventually will) loose her life over this if she doesn't stop. If her parents are allowing this to happen, I would contact children's services. If you care about her, you will do everything you can to get this issue to come to a halt.

It is understandable that this comforts her but she needs to find something else to replace the sound of a real hair dryer.....yes it is dangerous and could overheat and catch fire...this is aside form the huge electric bill she is making... there are CD's of sounds or she can make her own CD of her hair dryer to listen to...hey we all have quirks and if it is not dangerous no harm , but this one has potential to be lethal
