if she begins taking a hormone supplement, her body will recognize that she is receiving enough of the hormone and potentially stop making it. If she takes it for long enough, her body will adapt to it and her thyroid will no longer produce thyroxine. Her Pituitary gland could also be damage and may not produce Thryoid stimulating hormone. Too much thyroxine is called hyperthyroidism. She will definitely lose weight but she will also not be able to tolerate heat very well, which will cause her to sweat and dehydrate. She will develop polyuria, fatigue, and weakness. Not a good idea.

i think the major problem here is that your friend has bought these losing weight drugs without having consulted any specialists or doctors on such issues....i think there are major problems she's going to face because..when you buy such drugs they usually tell you to consult your dietician or a nutriotionist before commiting to those drugs....so what your friend is doing can in the long run cause problems like flactuation of weight...which is very dangerous....if there's any way to stop your friend from using those drugs then do it...i know dieting and exercising can seem like a long run to losing weight..so i can say i understand why she wants to lose weight faster and effectively...what she needs is a nutritionist to help her figure out what foods will help her lose weight...and plus a bonus is to eat every three hours..small meals will ensure that she utilises her energy well..instead of storing it and causing her to gain weight...she can take some chinese slimming tea..if the nutriotionist encourages it...it helps you lose weight but at the same time allows you to get your desired weight and most of all it has no side effects.....hope i helped you out...good luck....

I can confirm with you that is DOES NOT allow you to lose weight unless you have an actual Thyroid problem. I am taking thyroxine myself for suppressive therapy as i have a cyst on my left gland and my right gland was removed. I thought for sure if i doubled up on them it's be GREAT and I'd lose weight.. WRONG! i actually gained 8 lbs in 3 months, . Keeping a good diet and excise plan, not only that but i started feeling REALLY wierd.. SO no it doesn't work.. Sorry : (

yeah, this is absolutely dangerous!! Tell her not to take it. Thyroid hormone effects the metabolism and cell function of almost every tissue in the body. This could damage her regulation of the hormone forever. This is an ultimate stupid thing to do. Like the other guy said--- eat less and exercise.

I have an identical twin brother who takes Thyroxine every day for an underactive thyroid. He has to go regularly to see his GP to make sure that his dosage is the right one. As far as i know, the drug has nothing to do with weight loss. Why is your friend doing this? I will ring my brother tomorrow to find out more, and will get back to you.

you should be and so should she, besides losing the pigmentation in her skin, she can cause heart irregularities, and many other side effects. Tell her to stop, eat less and get her butt to the Gym, she needs to see her Gp too to tell him she has been taking them as it may cause problems in the future.
Gosh some people are so strupid!

Keep a food journal along with email it every night to a family member or friend. The accountability will keep anyone honest.
