Depends on how much you value your friendship. I'd say go with the other guy so there's no competition which could hurt your friendship.

You and your friend like the same guy, but you also like another guy? At least you have two guys to like. That is a bad case to be in. If your friend gets this guy then you will be mad at your friend. If you get this guy then your friend will mad at you. No guy is worth losing a perfectly good friendship over. This happens all the time to girls and happens usually more than once. If you like this other guy more, go with him. Find out who you truly like and if it's the guy your friend also likes who also likes you back, then your friend will respect that. If she doesn't, then she wasn't a friend in the first place. Have you ever considered sitting down and asking your friend that if something happened between you and this guy you both liked if she would be mad or upset? Take the guy you both like and risk losing a friend or take the other guy and keep a friend but gain the friendship of the guy you both like? Either way it goes, you get a good deal out of it if you like two different guys! Good luck!

be yourself. let it play out how it will. if you're good friends it won't hurt the friendship over the long run... in fact if you are anything like me and my room mate in college- we laugh about it all the time. We liked the same guy- who happened to be her boyfriend at the time so i kinda just was me and went on an akward date with his best friend to double with her and him.... and well, he dumped her that night and picked me up- within a couple weeks he dumped me and is still single as far as we know- and both of us are happily married and she has a little baby. Things play out for the best as long as everyone is being honest and is themselves.

Tell your friend that you have feelings for him and maybe she'll comprehend that you really like him and so maybe she should let you give a try of being his girlfriend.
