Yes, it dissolves it a little bit at a time. If he hasn't pooped it out yet then you should take him to a doctor about it. A quarter is large enough to create a bowel obstruction.
Although stomach acid does dissolve it some, it would take years for it to dissolve a quarter completely. Meanwhile, he's getting some poisoning from the metal it does dissolve.

No.
How old is your son? I am assuming that he is under 3 as this is something a child this age would do.
I am surprised that he was able to completely swallow a quarter as I have seen children with a coin smaller than a quarter lodged in their esphogus that had to be surgically removed.
At this point I am wondering how you know that the quarter is still in his stomach?
Have you had him x-rayed?
Generally speaking, once the coin is swallowed it should pass through the digestive process and be deposited in the toliet in a bowel movement.
Is it possible that he passed it and it has been long since flushed down the toliet?
If infact it IS still in his stomach it is because it is too large to pass through stomach opening that empties into the intestine process.
This could cause him some severe problems if left there and it needs to be removed.
You need to see your Dr and get an x-ray so you know where you stand in this dilemma.

No stomach acid is not strong enough to melt metal. The quarter should come out the other end. Try some mineral oil in a glass of orange juice to lube things and get that thing on out of there. Be prepared that he may experience some discomfort from it as it makes its way out! I would take him to a DR for an x-ray though. Two weeks is really a long time..it should have made its way out in the bowel cycle by now..

No, it can't. Are you sure it's still there? He may have pooped it out. If it's still there, the doctor will haveto remove it. They can do an Xray to see if it's still there.
