cops use to be friendly heplful people. hince the saying to serve and pertect. now cops are one step away from martial law and loving it. they don't care about decent human beings anymore to them we are all criminals no matter how we live our lives. here in pulaski va the cops are so scared you can't get a fair deal when pulled over. for a busted tail light 4 car loads of cops pull you over. scared. last wensday my uncle came out of the local grocery store the males had an officer down beating the brakes off of him my uncle stepped in and pulled the guys off him and two other cops attacked my uncle. the manager came running out and had to save my uncle. they scared. but yes there are some that are good. check this out I called the police one night for two drug dealers standing in front of my house in the street. I new the boy's don't belong here becauseI am the only house on the block with young people in it. I live one mile from the police dept. 45 minutes later they hadn't arived I called back they told me I was the next on the list. but I had already went outside on my own and run the guys off. the woman said well do you want me to send an offercer ne ways so you can talk to them. I said no I have already done your job no need for you all now. so now when I need the police I call the state police.and every time they ask me why I don't town. I let know why.

Absolutely! You can't believe everything you see on the news. They like to spin things up b/c it makes a good story. The reason it makes a good story is b/c a lot of people are prejudice towards cops and it's usually b/c they don't understand what cops actually do or what they're there for.
There are definitely some cops that make the lot of them look bad but overall cops are dedicated, honest and reliable. It's the laws they enforce that are usually jacked up and people tend to blame the cops b/c they enforce those laws.
If you are really curious, try scheduling a ride-a-long with your local police or sheriff's office. Hopefully, you'll get a chance to see what they do and who they are.

As long as you are obeying the law, they will treat you with the same respect you treat them. The problem with this country is all of the video games and movies where police officers are shot at and bad-mouthed. It's no wonder that 1 in 4 Americans have been in jail or on parole at least once--there is little respect from many people.
Respect for authority has gone way down hill in this nation, and any time something suspicious happens, the media jumps on it. They make it seem much worse than it really is, and they don't tell the whole story. Why don't they interview the police officers, too? They should get to tell their side of the story.
So in answer to your question--yes, most "cops" play fair, as you put it, and yes, there are many good police officers out there. Most of them are good.

Yes. Do you ever hear what happens before a cop shoots someone or a cop pulls out his pepper spray pr something...no not really. I disagree that cops are not playing fair. If someone twice your size came running at you and you were armed? You would want to defend yourself wouldn't you. The magazines and news never show the good stuff. Just the unfortunate stuff. Or never the full story

The media has a tendency to favor certain groups of people, when these people get hurt by the cops the media seems to forget that often the injured or dead people were whacked out on drugs like PCP or crack, or an eighteen pack of beer.
If you have ever seen any angry drunk you after he has had 6 hours or more of drinking knows these people can be scary, and are more likely then sober people to kill someone.
While cops are people too, and therefor must have some bad eggs among them, I always give the police the benefit of the doubt.

Hmmmm .... kind of like Pit Bull Terriers eh? Nothing in print about all the good they do ... such as search & rescue, guide dogs, compassion dogs etc ...
What some don't realize is ... that if it weren’t for the laws and police officers, half of us would probably be 6 feet under already. If someone didn't like you, they'd just blow you away.
These men and women put their lives on the line for US. Before making harsh judgment upon all police officers, they should keep that in mind. It's so very sad, how humans tend to focus on the negative ... rather than all the positive things, that police officers do ... :(

A reporter I know told me once that sheeple just love to read about hero firemen and corrupt cops so those are the only ones you'll see in the news. They never, EVER report on hero Cops or corrupt firemen.
I caught a fireman coming out of a house fire one day with a freakin' VCR stuffed into one of his boots and two bottles of whiskey in the other. Not a peep in the papers.

While I do believe that there are some good officers out there, I would not say "most" is a good term to use. I personally believe that the Police in most areas are not fair. I have been in several circumstances where things were not handled well by the police department. I have seen people arrested when they should not have been and I have seen others released when they should have been arrested.
When an officer approaches somebody and treats them with disrespect, that officer should expect to be treated with the same. They should not expect to get a pass on respecting others simply because of thier employment. An Officers job is that of public servant nature not that of an authoritarian nature. Unfortunately, "most" officers are given to much power and abuse it when ever it suits them.
Also, the police should not consider matters of opinion or favor in their decisions of whether or not to make an arrest, regardless of how they may feel about an individual. If a perp has broken the law and deserves arrest then that perp should be arrested, regardless of attitude or officers preference. If that same perp has not committed a crime Officers should not arrest people just to creat a neusance for that individual, again regardless of attitude or officers preference.
If firemen were known for deciding whether or not to put out a fire based on whether or not they liked you, regardless of why they do or do not like you, they would have the same reputation as Police Officers. Same with post men and mail delivery or any other public service that american tax payers are paying for.

i can say this........where i live we have "good"and "bad" cops.
some will write u a ticket for just a very minor 5 over the speed limit.some will let u go for 10 over.it just depends on the person.
i have been let go for driving on a suspended, but given a ticket for an illegal u-turn.
as far as major things that cops do wrong, have not had much of that around here that i know of.

Of course there are good and bad, as in any other profession. An officer doing his or her job doesn't get the publicity that one does for sodomizing a suspect with a toilet plunger.
