Before you try to come up with $500 for the puppy, you might want to think if you can come up with the money for its shots, flea and heart worm preventatives, spaying/neutering, quality food, toys and crate, and any emergency care that may be needed.

Today, I just had to spend $220 on my dog because of a bacterial, intestinal infection. I had the money to so this, but many people don't. I am not trying to be mean or make you not get a puppy that you really want. I just don't want you to go into this blind! Good luck to you!!!

You can get a puppy for the 5th of that price by visiting a local animal shelter. The only real difference from buying a puppy and adopting a shelter puppy is breed. When buying you can be more choosy on the breed and most likely get a pure breed. Once in a while you get lucky and find pure-breeds in a shelter. However, most puppies in shelters is the result of unsupervisored dogs that had not had reproductive surgery. So, those puppies are mix breeds.

Personally myself, I wouldn't pay that much for a Puppy. I would place free ads in papers outside of your area within 100 miles asking for a certain breed full blooded Puppy for sale.
The response you might get will be worth the effort.

When I bought my Redbone Hound Dogs I did just that and advertised outside of my area and had my Father put an add for me 150 miles away and it paid off.
Two redbones for sale full blooded AKC registered for $75.00
The owners were hurting for money.

Just remember the purchase price is the cheap part, the vet bills, food, and other maintenence is where most of the expenses come in.
