This can get a little confusing because several different flavinoids and polyphenols, etc., have been found lately in wines, red wines, red grapes, and in certain red wines more than others, as well as some other fruits & veggies. (Some of those findings are *very* recent btw.)

What would "equal the benefit" would depend a lot on which of those particular ingredients you were trying to get. and from which source.

One of those significant ingredients, "procyanidins," are also found in dark chocolate, apples and cranberries, for example, as well as a few red wines... this is one of the later-discovered ones though, not the one most here are probably thinking of.

You couldn't drink enough grape juice to have the same effect as wine. Grape juice is grape juice--- wine is a fermented form of grape juice---two different things. Try to drink that much grape juice and all you'll end up with is a purple tongue.

From what I've read, grape juice does nothing for you. It's something about the grapes and the alcohol that give you the health benefit. Those French people don't live a long life from grape juice!

It all depends in the quality of the juice, plus remember wine is not only grapes and the aging changes the chemistry.

the only subject with grape juice is the sugar content textile. Any fruit juice is going to have fairly some sugar in it, which isn't so solid for you. i could say you're greater effective off having a tumbler of crimson wine an afternoon, and you're able to be large!

Um. the unhealthiness of grape juice far outstrips its nutrition. There's too much sugar in it, leading to obesity and diabetes. Red wine, however, has virtually no sugar in it, because most of it is fermented. The health benefits come from the alcohol and vitamins.
