Your only supposed to wash goretex in cold cycle with liquid detergent. The powder detergent works its way into into the gotex because it doesnt all get into solution, and it wont be water proof after. DONT take it to the cleaners!! If your washer has it, use the double rinse cycle.

Read the label. I think you'll find that the washing machine is fine. I've washed mine quite a bit in the washing machine. Drip/Air dry. Just hang it on a plastic hanger in the shower/bathtub to dry.
You may also want to buy some Goretex rejuvenator to get that nice, beaded water quailty back. Something like REVIVEX.

Follow the directions on the tag.
I use the NikWax Tech Wash cleaner for Gore Tex.
If you have a Goose Down liner, like myself, there is NikWax Down Wash that works well to keep the fluff. :-)

I always put mine in the washing machine on gentle. But, the best thing to do would be to read the label on the jacket.
