I need to know because I've been begging my mom to try and get her bred for awhile now, but she wants me to see if she's still young enough. And how much longer until she can't have puppies anymore?

No. 7 years old is too old for a pom to have puppies. Especially a first litter. Breeding poms or any other breed for that matter is for the experts only. Poms especially are hard to breed due to their size. You often lose the mother during pregnancy or birth. C sections are very common. Even the reputable breeders retire their females at 5 or 6 years old. She should have been spayed years ago.

I used to have Poms and I can tell you that 7 is too old for a first litter. Even if she is in good health the strain of a first litter may be too much. Essentially at 7 she has already lived at least half of her life and in any species waitng that long for a first birth is dangerous for both mother and progeny. It's too bad too because pom puppies are soooooo cuuute.

Seven years is usually the time a reputable will stop breeding a female but if she has never been bred, it is possible she could have a healthy litter. However, I would not breed her again at this age.

I really wouldn't recommend it. It could kill her, and more likely than not she will have to have a c-section (which are very expensive). Females should not be bred after 5 and they should then be spayed to remove the risk of uterine infections and lower the risk of cancers.

No I would not breed her. My grandpa bred coon hounds, and he would never breed them after they turned six years old. He would breed them between the ages of 2 and 5. I think 7 is way to old to breed your dog. She could suffer from alot of complications, and may even die.

It would be a bit risky for her to have her first set of pups at 7 she is probably getting a bit beyond it. There are soo many other dogs that need homes don't breed her just cause she is cute!!

Honestly, you are risking her life at this stage of the game. I would not put her through it. Talking from experience in dogs since the 70s.

yeah, that seems pretty old for a dog. that means she's 45 years old in human years... around the time women go into menopause.
