The stale egg will float, because as an egg gets older the air sac gets bigger and the air makes it float.
The size of the egg is a reflection of the age, weight, and breed of the hen, with mature hens producing larger eggs. Environmental factors that lower the weight of an egg include heat, stress, overcrowding, and poor nutrition.
The colour of the egg’s shell is a reflection of the breed of hen. Breeds with white feathers and ear lobes, such as White Leghorns, lay white eggs. Those with red feathers or ear lobes lay brown eggs.
The freshness of the eggs you buy reflects both how recently they were laid and the temperature at which they were stored. Ideally, eggs should be stored at 40°F (4°C) or below, and at a relative humidity of 70 to 80 percent.
Air builds up inside the egg as it ages; this pocket of air is the reason hard-boiled eggs are flattened at one end. If you hold a white egg up to the light, you will be able to see the air pocket (brown eggs are too dark for the air pocket to be visible). Thus the test in water. Note the colour of the egg white. The cloudy appearance of an egg white actually indicates freshness, due to its higher carbon dioxide content. As the egg ages, the carbon dioxide escapes and the egg white becomes more transparent., Carbon Dioixe will escape into the air pocket, with sulphur, the smell you get from a rotten egg.
To determine if an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh; it it rises to the surface, throw it away. Also fresh eggs' shells are rough and chalky; old eggs are smooth and shiny.

An egg will float when it's not fresh and sink when it is fresh. This is proven fact. I wouldn't use any egg that floats.

if it sinks, then its still okay to eat, but if it floats, then that means its bad, because all the gases in the egg get released when it is bad, which is what causes it to float.

If it floats, it's bad. It should rest on the bottom. It floats because gases are expanding making it more buoyant.
