Well i do not know the exacts on this one but i do know one thing some times its from the actual smoke that's coming up into your face also your hands can become a light yellow after smoking for years due to the smoke that's coming out of the cigarettes onto your hands so im guessing the same thing can happen as it goes up to your eyes
woman in the older days used to attach there cigarettes to those long sticks to avoid the smoke in the face and also to avoid smelling bad so we've pretty much have gotten worse :D

Smokers get wrinkles because all their blood vessels are damaged by smoking. The blood
vessels shrink and can't carry as much blood-
this is poor circulation.
The poor circulation causes the wrinkles.
Don't know if dark rings around eyes are caused by smoking, but plenty of other bad things are,
like lung cancer and emphysema.

tobacco smoke released into the environment has a drying effect on the skin’s surface. because smoking restricts blood vessels, it reduces the amount of blood flowing to the skin, thus depleting the skin of oxygen and essential nutrients. Recent research has shown that the skin ageing effects of smoking may be due to increased production of an enzyme that breaks down collagen in the skin. Collagen is the main structural protein of the skin which maintains skin elasticity.
