Hello. I feel the same way. I am 21 and my parents NEVER let me have a dog. I would write them letters, show them that i am responsible. I even tried to guilt them into it by taking them to the animal shelter i volunteered at. Their hearts were like ice. They didn't care at all. I am now living on my own, BUT i live in an apartment. And this stupid apartment i live in wants a $700 security deposit for any pets, plus $100 a month rent fee. SO, i can't afford that plus vet bills at this time. But i feel the same way. I look on petfinder.com everyday, and i research dogs every day. It is like an addiction because i can't have one. And i work at a vet clinic, which makes it worse, because i see dogs everyday, but can't have one. I feel your pain, i definitely thought i would ahve a dog by now, but it looks like i have to wait at least another year. Don't worry, your time will come.

Dogs are not toys, and it is no fun having to clean up the poo, feed them, brush, them, take them to the vet, toilet training, get them wormed (regularly), vaccinated (annually), nails trimmed, teeth checked, neutered etc. Its also no fun having to train them to behave themselves. Just learning to come to their name or a whistle takes a lot of time, let alone learning to "lead", to sit, stay, come, not jump on people, not to bite etc etc. Of course this will take a lot of time and even more money as you have to consider the cost of food and vet bills as inevitably just like older people their will eventually be a lot of trips as their health declines. Of course you will need to think about how much time all of this will take- its ok the spend time having fun but you will also have to spend hours every day training feeding grooming etc.... and these are things that cant wait until tomorrow or the day after etc so think about the impact personal life because you will get a lot less time for your friends.
