i take matte medium and mix it with glazes of acrylic colors and use different chemicals to remove certain areas to create certain finishes or textures...you can apply matte medium to a photo in a magazine ....up to 1/8 of an inch thick...soak it in cold water after the medium dries...the image will stay on the medium and the paper will dissolve. you can then adhere the image on to canvas with matte medium under the surface and on top and glue the image to a canvas. when dry you can paint around it...any mixed media
water based is great to add to this...liquitex offers free literature on how to use matte medium....

in basic terms pass to any first rate artwork shop and look over the determination of acrylic mediums. There are a large style. you will get mediums that upload physique for oil-like "impasto" effects, or maybe "structural" mediums that incorporate fibrous cloth so as which you additionally could make 3-D effects. Matte, Gloss, despite. Acrylic paint clearly has a marginally matte texture, so it is not frequently had to function something for that.

I enjoy Acrylic paint. I started learning in highschool.
A good medium for covering your painting board or canvas with is GESSO. It's a good primer, if you want to use one. One thing my instructor did is have us go to our local LOWES, or hardware store, and by a sheet of Masonite wood. Lowes will cut it to the size you want. The smooth side we covered in about two coats of Gesson to make a painting surface. A good sheet of Massonite will make you a lot of painting "canvas" and it's not as expensive as the store bought canvas.
A matte medium you can use to protect your picture after it's finished. There is glossy, which you can find in a spray can. I've used the Krylon brand before. You can also get a "matte" finish...matte, in this case, means unglossy.

takes the gloss out of paint. Like with any mediums you should experiment on practice boards with different amounts so you can see how it works.

It is not transparent or translucent. Matt is an opaque paint. It is used often as a base coat and other colors are washed over it.

a matte finish is the opposite of a glossy finish - it depends on what effect you're aiming for.
