Colds and flus are caused by viruses and are "species specific" meaning that humans, dogs and cat viruses will only infect the species they have evolved in.

Occasionally a virus will jump species - the AIDS virus has been determined to have evolved in chimpanzees and jumped to humans. The current concerns about Avian Flu are based on its potential to evolve and jump species from chickens and wild fowl to the human population.

So your cat will not catch your virus, thank heavens. I have the flu right now and at least I don't have to worry about four cats getting sick!

Cats cannot catch the flu from humans nor humans catch the flu from cats. I think the best way for a human to cope with flu is a cuddle from your feline friend.
