Take a close look at a light cigarette. If your eyes are good you'll see a perforation around the circumference of the filter. This allows air to be drawn in while you're toking. Since you're getting a mixture of air and smoke, you're not inhaling as much smoke as you would with a full flavor cigarette.

I agree with the first answer... apparently the only difference is advertising.

I think I remember reading awhile back that the manufacturers had at one point made the filters of "lite" cigarettes denser so smokers wouldn't get as much with each toke, but according to tests they got the same because they just aurtomatically inhaled harder. Not sure if even that's true for later cigs though.

Nothing. It is only marketing, but no more In the USA and Canada; both countries recently had court or regulatory actions that forbid the description as fraudulant labelling.

less tar and nicotine..the difference is in the tobacco
