I know a lovely girl with very low self-esteem and self-confidence due to the fact that she has always been treated so badly by her past boyfriends - consequently she is very wary of men - and understandably so. We have a very good friendship but I would like to take it further, but think she still needs confirmation that I am not going to be like her exes - I genuinely care for her, and am therefore biding my time, treating her well and trying to make her realise that I do respect her and cherish her friendship and want to make her happy.

We've been seeing each other socially and she is starting to open up to me in terms that she is able to talk to me about the past - by this I understand that she is starting to get more comfortable with things.

To date I have been very reserved - I sensed from our first meeting that it was going to be a case of taking things slowly - although I would think that after six months of going out together socially that she must be aware that I care and am not after some quick fling.

you can't. it's instilled. each abuse set's the level higher. you have to simply take your time. show her your not into her for the sex alone. and when she needs you, you have to be there, hold her, listen to her, etc. but if you seem like your in a rush to make out with her - her alert system will go off. you may be creating a simaler pattern as she had in the past.

Just don't act phony. Don't pressure her for oral or regular sex... girls aren't dumb anymore we know what guys do. Ohh and don't shower her with compliments either people with low esteem start to feel worse. Good Luck.

Show her... your actions speak louder than your words, and if you act the way you described, then she should pick up on it and see your intentions... a warm hug can mean everything to a girl :0)

be sure to gain her confidence. hang out with her a lot, and show her that you care by doing little acts of kindness, they add up!
