I heard somewhere that the Roman Catholic Church will pay your student loans if you join the seminary. Is this true, and if so, what happens if you leave the seminary right before you become a priest?

they will pay your student loans **after** you leave the seminary and enter the priesthood. you'll have to agree to stay for ten years. if you don't get your M.Div, it's unlikely they'll pay a cent. Why should they?

Gee, nothing like looking for a way out before you are even in! You are not usually accepted to enter the priesthood until you have a good educational background and even have had a solid job in the secular community. The Church pays for you to attend a seminary so there is no fee associated there.

The Catholic Church will pay your loans, only if you sign an affadavit stating that you will orally gratify all of the mosignors in your diocese. If you leave the seminary right before becoming a priest you are subject to being sodomized by the pope and cardinals, and you have to pay the loan money back.
Good luck.

If you don't fulfill your obligations, then I would assume that you will be required to repay your loans in full. There are many organizations that will "pay" for your education, but there are strings attached. I'm not surprised to hear that the Catholic church is one. Remember the old comedy Northern Exposure...about a doctor who's education was paid for by the state of Alaska. In return, he is required to work for several years in that state and is assigned to a frontier type town. Other cities and states have similar arrangements...even some businesses.

I've never heard anything like that. If you follow the link you will see that Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary requires that men be debt-free.

I doubt it's true for the very reason you mentioned - people who are not interested in the priesthood at all would pretend to be simply to get their loans paid off.

Doesn't surprise me.

They need fresh recruits to replace all the priests they had to move out of the country to avoid child mollestation charges.

All denominations have incentives for those who train for the ministry.

Yep! They are DESPERATE!

Then you have to give them the $$$$$ BACK.

IT IS A LOAN.
The RC church NEVER EVER gives $$$$$$$$ out.
the Vatican just TAKES -even from the poorest in S.America!
