My uncle, a non smoker, non tobacco user was diagnosed with tongue cancer this weekend. They told him its inoperable but not terminal and will be doing chemo and radiation.

does anyone know anything about this kind of cancer?

I am in shock... he is so healthy.

Some people say that if you often burn your tongue it will cause cancer or something like that. Because you aren't letting your tongue properly heal so it has all these messed up cells.

Cancer can strike anyone and since your uncle was not a smoker or tobacco user it could have simply started from a tooth that had been irritating his tongue for sometime. One of the most informative medical books I have read over the last thirty years is, "Everyone's Guide to Cancer Therapy." I would recommend it to anyone. It is written well enough even the layman can understand and deals with the different types, diagnoses, stages and treatment today. This book spells it out for everyone in no uncertain terms but also leaves the reader hope and encouragement.

Tongue cancer prognosis is always poor because of all the layers of tissue (including muscle, glands and vascularity) that are involved.
I have known several patients who developed lingual cancer who had never smoked, nor did they live with a smoker.
Years ago, glossectomy (removal of the tongue) was the treatment of choice, but living without a tongue is worse than being dead. The chemo and radiation have improved radically in the past few years. That's most likely why they said it's not terminal.

Sadly I have heard of it. I'm sure he had a sore, or lump on the tongue. I don't know what else to say. Maybe you can google it, and research it. Good luck to your Uncle. ~~~~

That is very surprising. I thought that was a cancer of smokers.
Now i need to look it up.
Tell your uncle good luck from me.
