I want to grow my hair out so I could have long hair but I heard that trimming your hair will help it grow. How much of your hair do you have to trim off to help it grow? My parents won't let me cut off 1/2 an inch they said they'll only take me to get it trimmed if I cut 3 inches off. What should I do?

Cut 5 inches off your hair, for a good trim.

Trimming your hair won't make it grow any faster. Trimming your hair is recommended because over time, your ends may start splitting and breaking off. If it's been a long time since you've had a trim you may need more cut off to get rid of all those split ends and scragglies that have formed over time but trimming is only necessary when the ends are getting bad. Whether that means having it done every 4 weeks or every 6 months all depends on your hair and what you've done to it.

Let it grow until you're happy to have a trim of 3 inches.

Don't get 3 inches right now. hair takes a long time to grow !

I have really long hair. I can sit on my hair. I have always got my hair trimmed every 12 weeks 1/2 an inch.

My daughter is trying to grow her hair (after bullying me to have it all cut off!!!) I wont let her trim it more than 1/2 inch but it needs to be consistent. Every 12 weeks. so you can get rid of the dead ends and then it wont split to the good hair. You dont need to cut more than that off if the rest of the hair is OK!!

Look after your hair with plenty of GOOD conditioner.

Have fun - Long hair is much better than short - so much more easy to handle and much more variety!!!!

Trimming 3 inches is too much if you want to grow your hair out. Ask them too just trim your dead ends. Your hair will be healthier and you wont have split ends. Plus, you wont be cutting off a lot but you will be doing your hair a favor! Your hair will grow better by ust taking off split ends.

well naturally your hair grows 1/3 of an inches every month so i would say take a 1/2 off every 2 months that should work =] (good luck)

Well you don't want to cut off too much hair or you will never get there. Stimulation to the scalp also helps. It sounds like your folks don't want your hair that long. I don't know how old you are. I don't know how long your hair is now. It's tough when your bucking your folks. I guess when your under their roof it's best to consent rate on the condition of your hair. Maybe think about something else for a while, then your hair will get there. You might have to wait till your on your own to grow it out like you want. Put your focus on something else.

As much as the hairdresser says. Unhealthy long hair is not pretty. Just because you have length doesn't mean it looks healthy or fresh- it could look raggedy. Maybe your parents will agree to a compromise: you'll cut no more than 3 inches, or less, depending on how much the hairdresser says you need.
