I have a friend who is latin but does not speak latin, he understands alittle. I had him over to a friends house, where my friends speak both spanish and english. Of coarse, they start to speak in spanish and after 10min my non-spanish speaking friend excuses himself to go outside to talk on the phone. Later he explain that he feels uncomfortable in that situation.
Plus he didn't want me to tell my spanish speaking friends to speak english so that he could join the conversation. Is that not rude?

By the way, no one mentioned anything about what language to speak. And yes my spanish speaking friend did assume he understand and could speak spanish.

It was up to you to ensure that your friend knew the person you brought didn't speak or understand Spanish, whether he wanted you to tell them or not.

He didn't want to impose, no that's not rude.

First of all, I doubt that your friends were speaking Latin.

That being said, I think your friends were being a bit rude to exclude him from the conversation. However, they may have assumed he spoke Spanish (since he didn't say he didn't understand them) and was just being quiet.

I think you should have told your friends to speak English in front of him. I would have left the room too-only because my other choice would have been to stare at the wall, while everyone else was enjoying each other's company.

no, it's rude to speak a different language in front of other people. If he felt uncomfortable, he did the right thing.

It was not rude of him to leave. He felt like a dumbass sitting in there not knowing what anyone was saying.
