time to train your dog

I'm sorry, and I realize some people don't have the temperament to correct this issue, but in my mind there is NO excuse for growling at children, barring extreme abuse by said children. This needs to be corrected immediately and decisively or the dog certainly could move to the next step. (Biting children). Corrections! Also, just to be sure, make sure that the children know how to act around a dog.

Dogs have a very strict hierarchy. If the dog views itself as higher in the pack than the children, that can be a cause for aggression.

Kids are teasing or worse hurting the dog. Dogs who are normally nice around kids don't usually get aggressive unless for a reason.
My best advice is to keep the dog in sight at all times or put away when children are present. If you re not careful you could have a lawsuit or worse your dog if attacking kids will pay the ultimate price.
Good luck and I sure hope things turn around for you.

In the order of a pack according to the domestic dog, the children are on the same level as it, and so therefore they are fair game when it comes to sharing toys, food, space etc. You have to teach the dog that it is on the lowest level of the home pack. Just be very firm when it growls and it should learn

dogs are just like kids. they get very gelous if the attention is not on them, im not sure how you would go about this, include him more maybe.
the other reason maybe that the kids have a got a bit rough with him, not intentional, but enough for the dog to retaliate, get back at them.
good luck though, and keep your kids safe no matter how nice your dog may seem. x

If it's only started happening all of a sudden, then the dog might not be feeling too well. It might be worth just keeping an eye on him and see if there is any other odd behaviour that ties in with this theory.

dogs don't growl for no reason. He is warning them to back off or he will bite. If they have not been taught to respect him and are allowed to maul him, drag him out of his bed, ride on him, disturb him when he is eating, you are well on the way to have a badly bitten child.
Your children may need training.

the kids probably scared the dog so now the dog is afraid of them. ask the kids if they did anything to make the dog uncomfortable. i would get mad at my dog the next time it growled. dont be really mean just show the dog that it's not ok to growl

Dogs tend to growl if they are scared or nervous. Could your kids have done something to the dog to upset him? Possibly hit, kick or tease the dog?
