Canned food out for about 2 hrs would be OK. You may consider letting her "self-feed" by using a dry product. Avoid using soft-moist foods.... poor quality.

I'd imagine that in warm weather you wouldn't want to do this. For health reasons alone, you really don't want flies coming along and contaminating the food by laying eggs in it etc - yuck. Big problems for your dog when this happens.
And behaviorally speaking, I wouldn't do this. Leaving food down for that long can teach your dog to be a picky eater, and also will definitely decrease the value of the food for your dog. "If I don't eat this....they will put something better down sooner or later...." - You would want to avoid this situation, especially if you ever intend to train your dog to do anything. I know you didn't ask this, but this is a really good reason to give your dog a limited amount of time to eat (like 2 minutes), and then take it away until next mealtime. Your dog will not waste away. Hope this helps!

15 to 20 minutes is best. You want him to eat 1 or 2 X per day (include any treats in the food amount allotment) and you want him to eat within 10-15 minutes so that you can be aware of any odd behavior and feeding time is a good opportunity to observe him. You will know if he has a bad tooth or is wolfing and not chewing etc... Resealable bags are great for keeping food fresh. Check the ingredients, you want to avoid gluten, grain/corn meal and fillers, and make sure meat is #1. Cat`

Though it is dog food,it is still meat.
I wouldn't leave it out for anymore than 2 hours if that long as it will start to grow bacteria as will any meat not to mention that leaving it out causes it to dry out.
You need to train your dog and quit letting the dog train you.
First day,put the dog food out for the dog and leave it for say an hour. If the dog does not eat the food within that hour take it up and throw it out and DO NOT give the dog anymore food until the next day at feeding time.
Second day, feed the canned food and leave it for an hour and if the dog does not eat it,take it up and throw it away and DO NOT give the dog anymore food until the next day at feeding time.
I would dare say that within a maximum of 2 days you will have a dog that is eating like most dogs do and that is to eat all of it at one setting and not leaving any behind.
Make sure that you are not over feeding as this will cause a dog to walk off from uneaten food and return to "pick".
I really prefer dry dog food because I have been told that canned dog food left out encourages flies esp in the summer and flies lay eggs. . . .Probably won't really hurt the dog but just the very thought makes me want to puke.
Using dry dog food alleviates alot of problems and guess work as you can leave out large quanities of food out and the dog can eat when it wants and as much as it wants or doesn't want.
Most any dog I ever had who ate canned dog food usually had diarrhea or very loose stools. . . feeding dry dog food solves this problem.
Once upon asking my vet which brand of dry dog food was the best I was told that once I found a dry dog food that my dogs liked to stay with that.
My dogs aren't picky. . . they eat whatever brand of dog food I buy them be it the cheap stuff or the high dollar stuff.
I will ocassionally mix canned dog food with their dry and BINGO. . .loose stools so I have quit that pratice and they get strictly dry dog food.

some people leave it out all day or till the dog eats it but then there's the ants to put up with its full of preservers so it will be OK for hours but you may want to try a different dog food a more natural one your dog is more likely to eat

She needs to learn that if she doesn't eat her food right away she loses it! Leaving food out is bad for training purposes and not very hygenic, especially in the summer when it attracts flies.
Take it up after 10 minutes - she'll soon learn!
