or in a cupboard? will they, like bananas, go ripe faster if they're all together?

Keeping them in the fridge will retard their ripening process to an extent. If they are really hard and you want to use them in a couple of days then I suggest keeping them at room temperature.

I always store kiwis in the fridge... and I wrap them all with the food plastic and so far they could last longer up until more than a week.

It doesn't matter, they won't spoil like bannas if not in the frige.
