I've had acne for a while and I've tried everything. It isn't severe but I get pretty bad breakouts. I finally went to my doctor and he prescribed me Differin (the cream not gel). I've been using it for 2 weeks and maybe 3 days. It dried my skin out, made it red, itchy, and flaky. That's over now, but my acne got worse! Is that just the route of the medicine? Or is it not working for me? Should I keep using it and see if it gets better?

If you use something and it gets worse, I would stop using it.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots

I think so my sister had it real bad so she used Proactive. It went away in a year. I think it just acne happens because you are growing up so you will grow out of it. It is just a matter of when. If you were or are using a acne cream or gel or whatever to help it and its not maybe try not to use anything on your face for a little bit, maybe your face is reacting to the fact that you are using a different acne thing every month?

eventually. maybe differn isn't the right stuff for you. You shoud try differnt products to see which one works the best. if Differin is doing that to your face i would advise you to stop using it. just because the doctor said it would help doesnt mean it will. That's why they say: "if it doesn't work come back in a month or so!"

you should try acne wash by Neutrogena, and apply oxy pads on your face after you wash and don't forget to use a good mosturizer that would keep your face from drying up. like "oil of olay" or by clean&clear - shine control moisturizer.
did you go to a dematologist? you may have acute acne! takes forever to clear up!

also try not too eat to many greasy or spicy food. they sometimes contribute to pimples.

and you dont have to spend a fourtune on skin products in order for them to work 100%. most of them contain the same ingredients. just a waste of $$$. and proactive doesnt work for everyone. you just have to find the right one that suits you and stick with it.

goood luck

I have tried absolutely everything (that did'nt work, by the way) before I was put on Accutane. First, most all acne treatments will seem to make it worse at first. This is because acne treatments work to dry your skin. This will, temporaily, irritate your skin and make it inflamed. Second, be patient. Acne treatments do tend to take several months (in my case 4 months) before you will notice a change. Always talk to your docotr, let him/her know what is going on with your medication as well as your expectations. Keep your chin up, to answer your question, YES it will get better.

ask your dermatologist for hormonal tests (blood, ecography) most of the times acne has to be treated internally not topicaly. I had acne for 6 years (chicken pox like) and i looked horrible, it really hurts self esteem and can lead to depression, if you feel you are getting affectes in such a way, tell this to your dermatologist, so he can rule out the origin of it.
Now i have babyskin on my face, i had a accutane treatment for 6 months, and i take the pill for the past 6 years. Follow the Drs reccomedation be PATIENT and dont touch! GOOD LUCK

Have you checked into your diet? A low fat diet is sometimes a good cure for acne. Also, make sure you wash your hair regularly, since the oils in your scalp will run down your face and clog your pores, too.

Keep the faith. Sometimes you just need to grow a bit older in order to cure a skin problem like this.

Yeah you should def still keep using it. Idk how old you are, but alot of people have less acne as they grow up. Being on the pill can help your acne too. Although, I'm on the pill and the only time I ever get acne is when I have my period. But it works different for everyone.

There are also medications to help acne. They take a few months to start working though. Good luck!

The older you get the less oil your skin produces. Have you ever seen a 70 year old with acne?
