The only failure of Operation DESERT STORM was that it left Saddam Hussein in power with his army basically intact. I was there, and I knew when I got on the plane to go home that we'd be back in ten years for just that reason. It took 12 years, but we went back just like I knew we would.

And we have the Useless Nations (UN) to thank for this. The resolution they passed limited the Coalition forces to kicking the Iraqi troops out of Kuwait, and that was it; the resolution did NOT allow us to march on to Baghdad and remove Hussein from power. If it had, we wouldn't be in the mess in Iraq we're in now.

Thank you, Useless Nations, you bunch of lame fools.

Reference THE GENERALS WAR. It will explain the following.

The Primary goal was to get Iraq out of Kuwait. That was a success and that is what everyone talks about when they say Operation Desert Storm was a success and how the war was won.

However, the USA had two Secondary goals. One was to take out Saddam. The other was to destroy the Republican Guard. In that, the USA failed in both. As a result, the USA and Britian had to enforce the NO FLY ZONE for a decade, something you generally do not have to do if you truely "win" a war.

The Persian Gulf War or Gulf War (2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991)was a United Nations-authorized military conflict between Iraq and a coalition force from 34 nations commissioned with expelling Iraqi forces from Kuwait after Iraq's occupation and annexation of Kuwait in August of 1990. Though there were nearly three dozen member states of the coalition, the overwhelming majority of the military forces participating were from the United States and the United Kingdom.
