"MADRID: Young Spaniards lit fires and stoned the police in a Madrid suburb over the weekend after fighting with Latin American gang members they blame for beatings, murders and rapes in and around the capital.

Rioters used text messages to summon as many as 1,000 Spanish youths to the suburb of Alcorcón on Sunday after a fight between Spaniards and Latino gang members the previous day led to multiple stabbings, according to the newspaper El País.

"This is a war for the district of Alcorcón against those who come from outside to invade us," a 16-year-old Spaniard, Efe Víctor, told El País.

Spanish youths rampaged through Alcorcón on Sunday looking for Latin Americans and shouting: "Latin Kings out! We're coming for them! We are going to kill them!"

The police came under a hail of stones from the youths and responded with rubber-coated bullets. Nine people were arrested."

I saw more articles about Latin gangs killing blacks in LA today, and one black activist called it a 'race war'. I was wondering if this sort of thing was on the point of happening here, then I saw this article about Spain.

What do you think?

Malcolm, actually, my personal interest is the impact on schools.

Malcolm, I just copied it from the article, and didn't impose my own language. However, the racial aspects in LA were being very broadly stressed in the articles I read this morning, so maybe my subconscious left it in for a reason.

"Three days after police and federal agents promised a crackdown on racial attacks by gangs in the Harbor Gateway area, African American activists returned to the neighborhood Sunday to talk to residents about how to end the violence and to decry what they say is a "race war."

To residents' dismay, another attack occurred Saturday morning. A 34-year-old African American man was shot without provocation by a Latino as he waited for his daughters to pick up a friend for a birthday sleepover, police said.

As the activists walked the quiet streets, police watched from their cars and a helicopter. African Americans, Latinos and whites came out of their homes and described their despair at living in a neighborhood where, they said, the crack of gunshots was an almost nightly occurrence. Neighbors also complained that, despite the heavy police presence Sunday morning, they were not seeing enough routine patrols in their neighborhood. "

"I'm scared," said Linda McIntosh, as her children clustered around her beneath the bullet-pocked facade of her apartment building. "This is the third weekend in a row of gunfire."

A few feet from where McIntosh stood on Plaza Del Amo, broken glass lay scattered in the street — left over, she said, from Saturday's shooting.

Ten yards away, in front of the house of McIntosh's neighbor, was a small shrine adorned with a crucifix and dried roses cracked from the sun — a memorial to a 23-year-old Latino man, Arturo Zaragoza, who neighbors said was shot in his driveway without provocation late last year."

Gameover, I know most Hispanics are not related to gangs. Yet it is true that illegal immigration greatly feeds the gangs in the area where I live. That has been discussed on this board often, and that is why this question is on this board.

Hello, i'm a spanish boy from Madrid, i haven't read all the things you has wroten because it's too long.
I want say that the events that took place in alcorcon was't a racist event.

The people who was there are many kind of people, like normal people, anti-racist skins, punks, people from another race, like black people,....

The latin kings are always fighting, an example: if you want play in a football ground, you must pay them 5 euros, because they say that if you don't pay, they kill you.
is it normal???, the spanish people is very angry

It depends where you are. There is little tension between black and latino gangs in Northern California (with the exception of Prison), while it's rampant in Southern California between Surenos and Blacks. Many crip gangs have allied themselves with Nortenos to become C-14. As for a truce, nothing extreme would happen (no riots in the streets). Gang buisness would go on as usual, just on a bigger scale. Their common enemy would be in a bit of trouble as well.

yes i see that happening anywhere if the governments does not step against GANG MEMBERS OF ANY RACE .... it does not matter where people come from that kind of attitudes should not be accepted .... by the way i do not understand how gang activities are related to the Hispanic population if that is what u suggesting by posting this on the immigration section . i also would like to put emphasis in the fact that most Hispanics are not related in gang activities once again ...... thanks for asking I'm sure someone who agrees with u will be chosen as the best answer .

note : thanks for accepting most Hispanics are not related to gang activities now please TARGET THOSE who are RELATED to GANG ACTIVITIES instead focusing only on those which are Hispanics . if u really are worried about the education u should worry about every gang member there is . i hate racism and i do not care where does it come from , i do not care if the racist is hispanic , i do not care if the racist is white , blue or purple racism cannot be tolarated just as those who cause violance should not be tolerated either .

i also want to mention that i do know about what is going on in spain with the latin kings which should be taken down by the government just as any hispanic , black or any other gang should be taken down in the USA . u are right in being worried i would be too if i was in your neiborhood . but u need to fight THEM not the whoke Hispanic population like i think u are doing today . i really hope that u do and that u are succesful doing that .

So clearly this is about a culture of violence, invasion and entitlement verses everyone else NOT LANGUAGE evidenced by them having the same problem in Spain, where other aspects of their culture is said to have originated. Only by being law abiding citizens who integrate with their host nations can they overcome this true perception of them.

All gangs are generated beacuse of lack of education, lack of employment, and margination. Being a Latino is not the reason.
What to do to avoid Gangs, legalizing not criminal illegals so they can work, more investment fom the gov in education (not spending money in stupid wars) and getting communities to exchange cultures, integrate in a sincere way.
Culture is the only answer, not being afraid

I think that you're trying to cover up your racist mood with some hint of the legal card.

I think that you think you actually think but I don't think you actually think at all.

So, if it's not a racist remark, what's the point in using the term "Latin"??

Why not just "gangs"?

What role does the 'race' play in this issue?
