To help AA people get the taste of their addiction without giving in to the devils of alcohol. Or give the designated driver something that won't prevent him from fulfilling his role while looking the same as what the others are having.

Drinking beer isn't solely for getting drunk. Beer has an actual taste for a reason and it isn't to keep you entertained while you're getting hammered. Some people drink non alcoholic beer because they want to drink a beer and not get drunk, impair their vision/motor skills, and intelligence.
Alcoholism is another reason why people might drink non alcoholic beer. Alcoholism is a habit along with an addiction. Popping open the cap of a beer and feeling it trickle down your throat every evening becomes habit, as does anything you do regularly. Recovering alcoholics are trying to get better - not worse, so in which case they drink non alcoholic beer so they can quench that habit, without slipping back into an alcoholic stage.

Most non-alcoholic beer tastes close enough to the real thing that people like me - who actually like the taste of beer - can enjoy it and not have any ill effects. Of course, I usually drink regular beer, but sometimes it's not appropriate. For example, if I'm having lunch somewhere, I know beer goes really well with pizza or burgers. But if I have to go back to work afterwards, it wouldn't be smart to have a regular beer then go back.

Maybe it makes someone who can not legally buy beer look flashy. People drink real beer to get a buzz on and loosen up. Fake beer won't do it for you. the one I tasted was no where like the real tast of alcoholic beer.

I can think of two good reasons. One, if you are trying to quit drinking. A good friend of mine was an alcoholic, trying to get his life together. He came to a party on New Years with O Douls. We had our beer, he had his, and everything was fine.
Another is the same reason, but different circumstances. My girlfriend used to drink four or five beers in an evening. We just found out she was pregnant. She wants to quit drinking, but didn't think she could "Cold Turkey" quit, so I let her have a few O Douls. Our baby is fine, and she didn't feel left out of the party.

Actually some people do enjoy the taste of beer. I'm in Iraq now, and that's all they have in our dining facilities is non alcoholic beer. I hate the taste of most beer, especially non alcoholic beer. Alcohol is not welcome in many Muslim nations.
