It is a contreversial subject. Gays do join all the time, keep it to themselves and serve honorably. While it may not be PC to ban gays from the military, it does keep peace in the ranks and it is safer for the servicemember to keep it to themselves.
Anyone who wants to serve is a true patriot, I do not care if they are gay or not, I just don't want to know.

Lol, I'm pretty sure (almost everyone was sure) that my husbands former roomate at the barracks was a homo. He had FHM & Maxim magazines everywhere, and dirty calendars to have you think differently, but he was. He was pretty cool though. There are LOTS of homosexuals there, even if it's obvious to everyone else, as long as you don't tell anyone or let anyone find out, then it's ok under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

The US Armed Forces have a "Don't Tell, Don't Ask" policy...which means you can enter, stay as long as you keep your mouth shut and also your superiors cannot ask if you are gay. BUT if you are discovered...well, that is another story altogether.

This was the whole purpose of the "don't ask - don't tell" policy. The government is not allowed to ask you if you are gay and you should not go around advertising that you are.

Sure, as long as they don't advertise it. They just have to use common sense and to be discreet.
