I know a lot of pet owners / animal lovers get angry at people who ask for pet advice and say they haven't consulted a vet yet. But it doesn't do anybody any good to just say "Get him to a vet stupid" or "Go to a vet, duhhhh" or I love this one: "You shouldn't have bought a dog if you can't afford to take care of it". He/she rescued this dog from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - obviously the person cares for the dog or they wouldn't even take the time to post a request for help or advice, and we don't know what his/her circumstances are.

As someone who has taken her dogs to the vet every time they whimpered (I once thought I felt a "lump" on my dog and panicked - got an immediate x-ray which revealed it was simply her microchip I was feeling - another time my dog coughed and I was sure she was choking and stuck my finger in her mouth and swore I felt a piece of a rawhide stuck in there - rushed her to the vet - vet sedated her to relax her throat enough to examine it internally, there was nothing there). But there are many other times I could have saved myself hundreds of dollars if I had just asked somebody if they were familiar with my dog's symptoms. A lot of times my vet will give phone advice, but sometimes she has said, "You have to bring the dog in, I have to see her to make an assessment." Then when we get there she just looks at her for a second, doesn't even touch her, and says "Yeah, it's probably....." and charges $45 for the "Office visit / vet exam". I now always try to get advice over the phone first, and if they say they need a stool sample, I just bring a stool sample in for testing, I don't even bring my dog - if they need a blood sample I ask if the vet tech can just draw the blood - this way I avoid the "vet exam" charge.

If you cannot afford a vet office charge, first just call your vet or their tech / assistant, and explain the WHOLE situation, exactly what he ate, how much, etc. (If you do not have a vet already, I am not sure if a random vet would give advice over the phone - if not call an Emergency Vet Clinic and see if they can give you any feedback.) Ask if you can just bring in a stool sample for testing, etc. If they insist you bring your dog in, ask ahead of time what the specific charges will be so you will be prepared. During the exam, ask what the cost is for any recommended treatment. A lot of times my vet will say "I'll give you some medicine to give her" or "I'll give you some ointment to put on that" and then I go to the counter to pay and she didn't "give" me anything, it's all added to the bill baby. So if money is an issue always ask ahead of time. If you absolutely cannot come up with money to take him to a vet, ask a vet for a referral to a low cost clinic, etc., or call the SPCA where you got him and explain what has happened and ask for guidance.

Obviously none of us here can diagnose your dog's condition, we can all say "Oh it sounds like.....", or "The same thing happened to my dog and it turned out to be....." If it were just diarrhea I would say it was the mexican food. But blood in the stool any time, whether it's diarrhea or solid, would be a cause for alarm I think. A lot of times vomiting and bloody stools are symptoms of a parasite. You say he got a hold of some nachos - were they on your dining room table or had they been sitting in the trash?

With diarrhea you just always want to make sure you dog doesn't get dehydrated - if you can't get him to drink water try feeding him ice chips. Sometimes you don't want to give your dog an anti-diarrhea product because diarrhea and vomiting are the body's way of rejecting and removing whatever "poison" is in it. But sometimes you might want to give him an anti-diarrhea medicine simply to try to make him feel more comfortable. But only a vet could make that recommendation by knowing what's wrong with him. My dog had a parasite and horrible diarrhea and my vet "gave" me some Kaopectate to give her for the diarrhea and it worked very well.

Sorry such a long post! I wish your dog well!

You might not know what's in that meat, but your stomach sure does! You should start worrying if you don't have diarrhea everytime you eat Taco Bell.

Although dogs will get diarrhea and vomiting from rich human food, bloody diarrhea is more serious. You NEED to take him to the vet.
In the meantime, hold food and water from him. If his stomach is upset, it will only make it worse.

Is everyone answering these questions a vet trying to make extra money?? NO, you don't need to take him to a vet. If you get diarrhea, do you go to the doctor?
Give him some pepto bismol & don't fee him taco bell nachos anymore!

sounds like the chips have cut him from the inside, give him water and call a vet. They will pass, but you need to make sure nothing was badly damaged when they went through. best of luck to you and your pet!
