It could be a number of reasons. Has your return been rejected by the IRS? Could be because some or all of the social security numbers you have on your return don't match what the IRS has on their records. Could be because someone has already filed electronically and claimed a dependent that you are trying to claim. Could be because you are married filing separately and your spouse has already filed electronically. Are you claiming education credits? Those cannot be filed electronically until after February 1st. If you give some more info, may be able to help.

There's something in what you're trying to send that doesn't match IRS records. Hard to tell what it is unless the rejection tells you why. It could be as simple as a misspelled name, or a name that doesn't match social security records for that number. Also check to be sure the social security numbers are all right. If ssn and names are all correct, there are a lot of other possibilities.

didnt file last year due to didnt make enough money and this year they are wanting my adjusted earned income.. so does that mean i have to do this my mail then or can it still be done electronically

there could be several reasons why you would have to mail your tax return off, the main reason is that you are Married filing a joint return.
