You don't say where you're located. In my area, there are a few places that will rent you a cat trap. You can then humanely trap the animal and then bring it in to the shelter. If you're sure the animals are strays, this is the way to go! They don't need to be on the streets.
Here's a directory of animal shelters...http://www.h4ha.org/shelters/ or check your local newspaper. There are usually ads for no kill animal shelters. Your local humane society may take strays or there might be an animal control shelter. Just make sure whoever you surrender them to will place them for adoption if they're healthy and social.

be careful what places you bring the cats to b/c cause many places will euthenize after a while. check and see if there is an APAAWS or similar where you live. organizations like these will take the animals in and either keep them at their shelter until they find a home. these organizations also a lot of people that work with them and provide foster homes for the animals so that they don't have to stay in a shelter until they get adopted. you're right though, once you start feeding them they are yours

Call the SPCA and have them picked up or you can take them to an animal shelter that does not put them down if they are not adopted after a specified amount of time. But be careful when handling these cats because they can get pretty upset, extend their claws and scratch you. You definitely can't feed them all. Or you can go to Home Depot and purchase the product (cant remember the name) that will keep them away from your house. I had to buy this for stray dogs and rabbits. It worked and it did not harm any pets.

In my area, the Humane Societies would kill them, so be careful of them. Also, if they remove these, more will come as people continue to throw cats outside, and not have them spayed and neutered. I feed the ferals and strays outside, trap them and have them neutered and given shots and put them back out to fill the area, so more won't be born and continue to come. It helps to have a cage/crate to keep them in for a few days afterwards. It's called Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR). I think if you Google this or Feral Cat you will find a lot of info. Also there is an organization called Alley Cat Allies at www.alleycat.org that should have a lot of information. There is a vet in my area who does the females for $30 and Males for $25 and also gives me a price break on the shots. Some programs are even cheaper. The only other thing is that if you feed them, also try to put water out. In the winter, I put out plastic heated pads in dog houses and heated water dishes (I know, cat lady). But I feel sorry for them. They are helpless, really. It's not their fault people don't take their responsibility seriously. Outside cats live an average of 2-3 years, inside for 20 or more. Hope this helps. I can tell you have a good heart. Follow your heart.

if you don't want to feed the cats because you think more will come ( wich is true) call the aspca. Tell them your problem and they will come out and get the cats for you. They will not hurt them though if your worried. Then they will give the cats a check up, foster them, and then give them a great home. That's the best way to take care of the problem. Hope this helped!

I've had a similiar situation. We had a stray cat which we fed, and his whole family lived within about 100 meters or more. We only got to feed him and his father, but rarely saw the mother or his siblings. Turned out he had Feline Leukemia. Anyway, do you have a local animal shelter? They should help.

Go to Alley Cat Allies online and they have a list of organizations that can help you with that. Some will come and help trap them so they can get sterilized and vaccinated. Some offer those services for free.

i have 4cats that i feed and it;s sad cause they were pets'till they got left or abused and ran away,,,they are nice and there just homeless that's all.i've caught all 3and got them spayed and nuetered.and the place that got them fixed;likes to bring them ;back to the place they were raised around....i feel for them;as the dad is blind and the wife just stays by his side;the others are like teenagers;and clown around if it;s not freezing outside,,,they are too feral now to get adopted norbut am looking for a farmer that would feed them and look after them...i;m gonna be moving in a few months and it makes me worry;whats gonna happen to lumpy ;permanite and bratty;he ;s new and like to eat his food 'then run and eat theirs..i have to wait outside in my carport so they can eat;and not get runoff by bratty....you could leave food aways from your house;as the weathers been so bad;just to give them a break...call the humane society and see what they say,,,,,,,,,,,LOL
