Windows has just recently begun selling its Vista software via online download, and I've been expecting that they would launch right about now. www.windows.com will have the software that you are interested in, assuming that they have already launched their online Vista sales program.
So long as your key has not been used already, then it will work, but were I you, I would call Windows immediately to verify the status of the key (if it has been activated and if it is legitimate), so that you can most effectively fight for your money back if you've been ripped-off. Some keys are given to specific companies for mass licensing, and if that is so, and it is registered to your company in the product activation phase, Microsoft will prosecute you HARD. If you determine the compromise of your key before you use it, then you are completely safe from Microsoft, and they will pursue the distributor only. They'll probably reward you (if you request it) for your cooperation in such a scenario.

DId you mis place the key or did you download Vista off the net? It seems to me that you aren't legit because why else would you loose the key.. and to mis-place a key is just our right stupidity If you downloaded Vista Shame on you and if you acually bought Vista Ulitmate then you are just dumb and you shouldn't own a computer.. I'm surprised that you know what a desktop is. And if you want Ultimate then buy it.... i don't agree with the price but hey i'll pay for it if i want it that bad i'm not that stupid to download it off the net and then go OH NO it isn't like XP wwhere i can access my stuff for 30 days!? I bet your Version of XP is illegal, I also bet it is SP1 and crapy cuase you can't do updates because you need to have a VAILD CD-KEY. What you need to do is find a store that will pity you can give you Windows2K or lower for real cheap cost though they aren't supported anymore by microsoft.

You may think you have a key, but if you haven't got the DVD then you are a pirate... and your key won't work anyway ...
Check out the forums - M$ has built such nasty copy protection into Vista that even legit users are going to have problems.
