Apparently in the South, if you have a wedding beginning after 6:00 people assume its black tie. How can I let people know its semi-formal on the invitation?

At the very bottom of the invitation, in small print you should just have the words "semi-formal" printed.

Im putting a link to our website on the invites, on the website it states the event is semi formal. In the end I dont care what they wear but I can understand how you feel...you spend all this money to have a nice classy wedding and you want people to look the part. Dont sweat the small stuff... I wouldnt put it on the invite. In the end you wont even notice what people are wearing you will be so busy and excited and happy

Write "semi-formal attire" or "business casual" on the invitation. (or some other form of saying it) You may still get some black tie-ers, but at least you tried. Just remember that no one will look better than you (I'm assuming you're the bride.)
