Any tips on passing an exam in Modern Literatures of the Middle East?

As part of the course, we've read a number of short stories as well as four novels: Fear and Trembling, My Michael, Season of Migration to the North and the Other Side of the Mountain. The exam is in English.

We have to write two essays as part of the exam. One will be on a short selection from a story and the other will be on one of the four novels.

Any tips for passing the exam?
