Hi shadowkat, I am an RN and maybe I can help. I am assuming that you are worried about Obsessive?Compulsion Disorder. Let me assure you that you are normal and on your way to health just by addressing the problem. First people who have OCD usually do jave a high anxiety about it and it is usually caused by some traumatic event they have sustained. That is the obsession part of it. The thing people do to minimize the anxiety, like "washing hands" after touching an unclean thing is this compusion part of it. People feel compelled to do some actiivity which will take away or minimize the anxiety. I hope this explanation helps. Now that you realize what you have, why not share it with your, as a problem shared is a problem have resolved already!! There are a variety of medications available to him to help you manage, and or eliminate the O and the C of this popular disorder. You have both feet grounded in reality, so I dont think that the services of a psychiatrist are what you need. So do yourself a favor and share the problem with your doctor. He might be able to shed some light on why you have OCD, and certainly will be most helpful to you in its management. By the way, I have been a nurse for 16 years and have been treated for OCD. Hope this truthful information helps you. Best wishes to you..Fred, RN

If it's hindering other parts of your life, like you won't go somewhere because you're afraid of germs, you need to see a doctor. Homeopathic remedies or meditation will only get you so far. Sometimes you just need medication to create an equilibrium in your brain. This isn't a character flaw or anything, it's a medical issue. Definitely see a doctor if it persists or gets worse.

Good luck!

Well, full out OCD may require psychiatrist or medication. But if it is mild you might want to try meditation -- almost everyone in the modern world is compulsive and habituated, mediation can help you unravel any unproductive concerns and habits you may have.

That may not be OCD, obsessive compulsive disorder, dear.
Bacillophobia, the fear of bacteria might be what you're looking at.
usually phobias are *to my knowledge* treated with anti-anxiety medications.

If its not extreme (as in absolutely-terrified-must-live-in-sterile-environment)
then perhaps look at other relevant home treatments for anxiety...
Though I can't think of any off the top of my head... I never got over most of mine >.<

Well honestly you can see a therapist they are quite resourceful in teaching you ways to overcome your habits. Not all doctors prescribe medication if that is your fear. Also, it does not make you a head case because you see a therapist. If it makes you feel better everyone has something relating to OCD. I have issues with Vacumm lines in the rug if you can't see them you need to re-vacumm.

You will never be cured if you have it. It is something that you will have for the rest of your life and can be stabalized with medications. It is something that you do over and over again. there are severe and minor types. if u realy think have it, see a doctor, please, it will bother you forever.
