More specifically: Is this illegal to have in Florida? I'm not interested in B&E, just more of a personal interest like you would take to a hobby.

It may very well be unless you are a locksmith.

Even if you are a PI, chances are high that you would still be breaking and entering.

If you really need it for your profession, you best check with your boss about it and make sure he will get you some type of license to carry that...

If you are a licensed locksmith, carrying them in the course of business, you have no problem, if you are not a licensed locksmith and get caught with them, you probably will be charged with possession of burglary tools. AND if their is any unsolved burglary's in the area you are stopped, and the point of entry cant be determined, you could be charged with that crime even if you didn't do it. time to get a new hobby

Yeah, it is usually illegal to simply possess lock picking equipment unless you are certified locksmith or similar. I'm not sure about Florida specifically -- might want to get a lawyer.

The offence, if any, would be going equipped, however if you do not have such a thing on your record and you are not acting suspiciously around someones door, it is not very likely you will have anything to worry about. Cant imagine what brought the question about though

you only have to have a permit if you charge for your services, otherwise their just tools. if you use them in the event of a crime then they are burglar tools..class c felony. even if you have a permit....and a side note read webster's definition of a locksmith...the permit thing is a money thing not a right thing.

As far as I know, you have to have a license to be a locksmith in order to have any lock tools on your person or in your residence, vehicle, etc.
