When I was getting my hair cut this weekend, the stylist took me back over to rinse my hair. She asked me, "Would you mind if I gave you a Hot Towel?" I said, "Sure, as long as that's nothing like a Hot Carl."

Was I funny or rude?

I'll tell you her reaction after all the answers...

Definition of a Hot Carl...

So, here was her official reaction...

First, she is young (mid 20s) and very hip. I certainly wouldn't have dropped this on her if I didn't think she could take it. She even knew what it meant, so she's not that uptight. (If she didn't know what it meant, I could at least have dismissed it as me being stupid. Just based on the way it sounded when she asked me, it was too perfect of a setup to ignore.)

She just giggled and said, "No, this isn't THAT type of establishment! HaHa!"

I said, "Whew! Hot towel it is, then!"

I think that was pretty funny. You answered her question at least... with "sure". Hope she gave you the hot towel! LOL

Until I read the definition of "Hot Carl" I wouldn't have known how to answer, but I'd say it was more on the rude side than funny.

We're free to believe what we want. Reporting is to be used for community guideline violations. No offense to you, but this isnt funny. Also there are a few typos that made it hard to follow. But dont give up. Keep trying. Better luck next time.

Most people don't know what the "hot carl" is. You just sounded very strange but not funny, once they find out what the "hot carl" is, it is very gross and rude, not funny.

I wouldn't have known what it mean't, but you would want to be getting on exceptionally well, and your discussion involving somewhat similar remarks, for a remark like that to be funny.

Extremely funny BECAUSE it was extremely rude.

I say this because I wasn't involved in the situation and can view it vicariously.

Rude. You may have made her feel uncomfortable. That kind of joke is only good with people you know.

Rude and I had to see the definition to know what it was.
